Arkus Zei lands his ship here, and this is where the level begins. The player receives a short tutorial on movement, and a Save Point is also located here. A ladder just past here leads downward.
A patrolling Nnenbot is beneath the ladder from the previous room. A Skitterbot is along a nearby ledge, which contains a ladder leading downwards. A Miniturret perched above a platform above a bed of spikes can shoot Arkus while he is on the ladder. Arkus must kill the Miniturret and jump across the platforms to continue with the room. A moving platform can then escort Arkus downwards, leading to a ledge with another patrolling Skitterbot. Another Skitterbot awaits at the bottom of the level. The exit to 1c is blocked by a force field, which can be turned off in 1q. There are also two Search Orbs at the bottom of the room. Interestingly, one of them flies offscreen before it is possible to reach it, but the other one can hurt you if you jump immediately after re-entering from a lower entrance.
This room is just past the forcefield in room 1b. The start has a Checkpoint and a treasure chest. Arkus must then jump across a large bed of spikes with the help of a platform which contains a Skitterbot on it. Then, Arkus must jump on a higher platform with another Skitterbot on it. Arkus must then climb onto a ledge with a Nnenbot and jump across some small floating platforms above a large bed of spike, with a Search Orb spawning halfway across. Arkus must then jump down onto a moving platform which passes under low spikes, forcing Arkus to duck, and is directly in the line of fire by a Miniturret that doesn't appear on Easy. Arkus can also take a break on a floating platform above the bed of spikes. After reaching the right side of the room, Arkus can climb down a ladder to reach a chest. The upper ledge, which leads to the exit, contains a patrolling Nnenbot. Just above the exit it is possible to jump up to a hidden area.
Upon entering this room, Arkus will notice a door on the upper right ledge. However, a Blue Keycard is needed to open it. The door leads to the Inner Quarters, and Arcus must return here after completing the Sewage Treatment Facility. Arkus must drop down onto a platform containing a Skitterbot, and then onto another ledge containing another Skitterbot, which may be difficult to see at first. Next, Arkus must climb down a ladder to a solid platform containing yet another Skitterbot. A RoofCannon will also be patrolling the ceiling of the above platform. After destroying those enemies, Arkus can jump up a series of platforms on the left side of the screen, which leads to a chest protected by another RoofCannon. After returning to the bottom of the platforms, Arkus must jump down onto a ledge and be careful of a Miniturret perched on a crate. On the bottom of the screen, Arkus will encounter a Skitterbot in a small pit.
Arkus will encounter a Checkpoint upon entering the room. In Hard difficulty only, a Lightning RoofCannon variant that follows Arkus will be just offscreen, constantly barraging him with attacks and making navigation of this already dangerous room harder. It's recommended to kill this immediately by jumping up off one of the tall platforms by the door and slashing at the top of the jump. Arkus can reach the chest on the upper ledge using a series of floating, small platforms, one of which contains a Skitterbot. Arkus must now use a moving platform to continue across the room while avoiding a Search Orb. While on the platform, Arkus will be in the line of fire of a Miniturret (except on Easy difficulty), so he should constantly fire his blaster on the platform to prevent it from attacking at all. Arkus must then jump off the moving platform onto another series of small platforms. While on the second platform, he will be surprised with another Search Orb. Near the end of the platforms, Arkus will encounter a higher platform with a Skitterbot, along with another Miniturret firing at him from the left (which will not appear on Easy difficulty). A door to the next room is on a solid ledge immediately after the small platform containing the Miniturret.
A Homing RoofCannon is on the right of the room on Hard difficulty, complicating accessing the chest on an upper ledge. Arkus has the opportunity to use a Save Point before entering the door on the left, before proceeding to the boss fight in the next room.
This room contains a large pit with six Skitterbots in it. Across the pit, there is a chest with a rifle. On opening the chest, Arkus will explain how to use it.
Upon entering this room, Arkus will encounter a Skitterbot on a ledge. The path then divides into two. The lower path contains a ledge with another Skitterbot, and later a slightly difficult enclosed area with spikes guarded by a Nnenbot. At the end of this area is a chest, which Arkus will comment on. He will also explain how to use the Item Quickbar. The upper path leads up some small platforms to a moving platform which will take Arkus to a a small ledge overlooking the lower path. If he has not triggered it from the lower path, a Search Orb will surprise Arkus here, necessitating quick reaction. Another moving platform transports Arkus across a bed of spikes to the end of the room.
A Nnenbot will be patrolling the lowest part of this room, and a Lightning RoofCannon will be on the bottom of the above ledge; both can be destroyed from the starting ladder. Arkus must then jump up some platforms on the right side of the screen to the next ledge. Here, Arkus will encounter three Skitterbots in a small pit, along with another Lightning RoofCannon, which he must dodge to the far side of the ledge. Arkus can then reach the highest ledge, which contains a Checkpoint on the left side and a Lightning RoofCannon patrolling the ceiling. A bit of timing is needed to dodge this cannon's attacks and reach the right door, which leads to an optional area.
A fast-moving Photon RoofCannon patrolling the ceiling should be destroyed first before navigating down two small platforms above a bed of spikes. This leads to the bottom part of the room, which contains a chest guarded by a Nnenbot.
Except in Easy difficulty, the ceiling of this room contains a Photon RoofCannon, which Arkus should destroy first. Arkus must climb down a ladder and avoid being hit by a Miniturret on the way down. Arkus must then jump down to a lower platform which contains a ladder. From here, Arkus has the opportunity to destroy a RoofCannon with his blaster to make navigating the next section of the room easier. Climbing down the ladder lets him see the stacks of crates he must jump between to cross a bed of spikes. A moving platform will transport Arkus lower into the room, stopping just above a bed of spikes. Arkus must be careful as he moves along this ledge, as it contains a Hyperbeamer, which will most likely kill Arkus if he is hit by the beam. On the lower ledge, Arkus will encounter a Miniturret on a platform. Arkus must duck and use his blaster to destroy the Miniturret from here, due to its location. Arkus can drop down the ledge into the lowest part of the room, hugging the right wall to avoid falling into the bottomless pit. The two platforms with Skitterbots must be used for climbing back up.
This small room has two doors. One, guarded by a Hyperbeamer, is locked with a Red Keycard, which cannot be obtained. The other is guarded by a Nnenbot. A treasure chest on a ledge has the Area Map in it.
The lower moving platform here leads over a bed of spikes to a treasure chest. The upper platform, which leads to the exit, must be walked rather than onto, due to spikes directly overhead. This means Arkus will have to keep walking to stay on the platform.
Arkus will encounter the first boss enemy here. When Arkus jumps onto the conveyor belt, which slowly carries Arcus left, threatening to dump him into the bottomless pit and complicating the battle, he will be attacked by The Crane. After the battle, the door on the right will open.
In this room, Arkus will encounter Gruen, who taunts him before teleporting away. Arkus must destroy the power core in the room in order to disable the force field in "The Raid Begins", allowing him to progress on with the level. There is an easily-accessible chest on a ledge.
Arkus will be attacked by the gigantic Cargo Mech when he steps forward into the centre of the room. After the battle, when he picks up the Riot Shield dropped by the boss, he will explain how to use it. Arkus will then be able to enter the door on the right, but it's advisable to go back and heal and save first, there not being another save point for a while.
Arkus will emerge in the right door in this small room from the previous one. It contains nothing of interest except for a Nnenbot and a Photon RoofCannon on the ceiling. The exit is on the left, and it leads to the Sewage Treatment Facility.
Arkus can use a Checkpoint before jumping up some floating platforms above a bottomless pit and avoid a Miniturret. Another Miniturret will be further up, and a Homing RoofCannon will be patrolling the bottom of a solid platform. Another will be patrolling the ceiling. The RoofCannons will only appear on Medium difficulty or higher. The exit is on the upper left.
In this small room, Arkus will encounter Gruen again, who exchanges words with him before leaving. Arkus has the opportunity to use a Save Point before entering the door to the Inner Quarters, the third level.
Jumping off the upper platform in the previous room leads to this place. An Nnenbot patrols the lower level and two Miniturrets await slightly higher up. Arkus must jump across a platform protected by a Hyperbeamer and avoid a Skitterbot to get a chest. Above, only a Lightning RoofCannon and another Miniturret stand in the way of the Relic Room.
The sub-boss of Cargo Bay I is The Crane and is fought in the Crane Room. The main boss of the level is the Cargo Mech and is fought in the Artillery Storage. More information about both bosses can be found in their individual pages.
